Black and White...

These shots I took a little while ago, while I was experimenting with black and white film. I found them recently and figured they could go up on the Blog as they from around Surry Hills.

A change in fashion...

This was taken in one of the great vintage shops peppered around the Oxford end of crown street.
Perhaps a little vouyeristic, but I assure you there was noone in the changing room but me.

Splice...

It is getting harder and harder these days to shoot on 35mm film.
With only a handful of stores in Sydney selling it, let alone finding a place to develop it, it can get a little fuzzy as to why I enjoy shooting on it so much... and then I get back a roll from the lab and find something like this. A Beautiful Imperfection. A Fantastic Faux Pas.
Sloppy handywork perhaps, but seldom seen in these days of digital perfection.

Puppy dog eyes...

Anzac Day...

I had these great expectations of doing a bit of an Anzac day special full of great emotive pictures of teary old war heroes, medals and good old Aussie spirit.
Unfortunately, when you start drinking at 5am, it has an adverse affect on the steadiness of your hand, and my grandiose vision of Anzac art became a blurred mess... apart from these two shots... and they are not even taken in Surry Hills. Apologies.

Hot Rod Red

You constantly catch cool cars cruising through Surry Hills.
This one stood out purely for the color.... Look at that red.

Welcome...

So here we are, first blog... nerve racking stuff.

I guess I should let you know what 50milhills is about.

I have spent a number of years, throughout different stages of my life, living and working in Surry Hills, which has planted within in me a bit of a fascination for the place.

Being jammed in between Paddington and Redfern, the Hills gets the benefit of all sides and has become this vibrant, artistic, eclectic, cultural hub for Sydney. A real estate agent's buzzword dictionary personified.

So my intention, through 50milhills, is to share with as many people as possible the Surry Hills that I encounter, through my Ricoh Camera and a 50mm Lens (hence the name of the blog), and hopefully encourage others to use this Blog to share their views and expressions of what Surry Hills is too.

I hope you enjoy.
Cheers

Stefan
